From the OLA Super Conference 2007

The main theme that I have seen running through this year's Super Conference is that the most valuable tool available is the collaborative power of people. Recognizing that, I have created this Blog in the hope that we can use it to share information. If there is enough feedback regarding successful Library activities, especially in Ottawa Carleton DSB secondary schools, I may use the material to try to revive the "Learning in the Library" newsletter that fizzled out two years ago. While we may share information via this BLOG, it is not likely to attract the attention of trustees and administration. The print version would be directed to the non-TL audience. As I see my budget shrink every year, I feel the need to do some advocacy.

Talking to colleagues at the conference I have heard about a couple of very successful formulae for running book clubs. It would be great if they would share the details such as how they determined themes and recruited the leaders and which titles were successful with particular groups.

I would also like this BLOG to become a forum for sharing tidbits of practical information. Here is one hint from EBSCO's Canadian Reference Centre Database training session on Wednesday afternoon. To limit a search to French language articles, type zl French + the search term. Another feature of the Canadian Reference Centre that I am looking forward to experimenting with is the Visual Search that clusters the results.

Please share with the other readers of this BLOG your interesting library activities, helpful hints and inspirational ideas.
